Common Whelk (Bucinnum undatum)

Aka " Buckie"

 

Shell to 4 1/4 " ( 12 cm ) long

Lives mainly below the low water tide mark.It is deeply grooved .The Whelk can extend a long siphon upward to acquire clean water and detect food like a periscope.

Diet

Food is mostly marine carrion

After mating the females congregate for mass egg laying.
